George W. Salts, 94

George W. Salts, 94, of Lafayette, died at 11:03 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Central.

He was born March 18, 1918, in Lafayette, to the late Harry and Myrtle McCorkhill Salts.

He attended Lafayette Jefferson High school. On May 29, 1948, he married Devonna J. "Bonnie" Cooper and she passed away in August 16, 2000. Mr. Salts worked for the Lafayette Police Dept. serving for 20 years and retired in 1967. He served in the army during WWII receiving the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Salts was a member of the Masonic Lodge 492, American Legion Post 11, and the Fraternal Order of police Arman lodge 49.

Surviving are his two sons, Mark W. (wife: Kimberly) Salts, of Buck Creek and Michael W. Salts, of Lafayette; three daughters, Beverly J. (husband: Floyd) Campbell, of Danville, Ill., Linda S. (husband: David) Laird, of Anderson and Deborah A. (husband: Larry) Long, of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Monica J. Salts; a son, Jack L. Salts; three brothers; one sister; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Indiana Veterans Home Chapel with Masonic rites given by F & A.M. 492, military rite by American Legion Post #11. Funeral service at 1 p.m. at Indiana Veterans Home; Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. Inurnment to follow at Indiana Veterans Home Cemetery.
