Gerald J. "Jerry" Hooker, 81, of Lafayette, passed away at his home at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, June 06, 2013. Born October 29, 1931 in Lafayette, he was the son of Ruth O. (Hargis) Hays of Lafayette and the late Harry Hooker. He was a 1949 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and attended Purdue University. He honorably served in the US. Navy from 1949 to 1955.
Jerry married Carol S. Deck on December 31, 1970 in Lafayette and she survives. He was a salesman for Better Brands Beer Distributors and then worked in Security at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital for over 10 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church,, American Legion Post #11, and a lifetime member of Lafayette Elks. He was an avid Chicago Bears and New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed Purdue sports, and playing golf. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife and mother are his children, Mike Hooker (wife, Becky) of Memphis, TN, Todd Hooker (companion, Joyce Schrader) of West Lafayette, and Kenny Hooker (wife, Jodi) of Otterbein; step-children, Vicki Ledman of Lafayette, Alva "Butch" Priest, Danny Priest, and Jamie Revalee (companion, Brian Roberts) all of Monticello; and his Aunt Nana Baraga of Lafayette. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., with Celebrant Denis Horn officiating. Entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
