James N. Montgomery, 96, of Brook, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at 2:15 a.m. at University Place in West Lafayette. He was born August 26, 1916 in Brook, to the late James N. and Leontine R. Winquist Montgomery. He was a life resident of Brook.
His marriage was to D. Janet Ford June 30, 1938 in Goodland, Ind., and she preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 2009. He was a graduate of 1934 graduate of Brook High School. He attended Purdue University for two years and then completed at the Indianapolis School of Pharmacy in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. He owned and operated Montgomery's Drug Store from 1952-1989. He was a member of Brook United Methodist Church and the Brook American Legion. He loved roses, bird watching, dancing, and was a wine connoisseur.
Surviving: 1 daughter, Sandra L. Brown (husband Alan) of Tipton, and 1 son, James N. Montgomery III (wife Gerlinde), of Cheney, Wash; 4 grandchildren, Christian A. McCallister (wife Tricia), Benjamin Z. McCallister (wife Miki), Jennifer Clarke (husband Jeff), Shirley Osborn (husband Dave); 5 great-grandchildren, Hanna and Henry McCallister, Cameron and Danielle Osborn, and Grace S. Clarke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Stephanie A. McCallister, a brother, Maxwell, and a sister, Lucy Mohr.
Friends may call Saturday, January 5, from 10 a.m. CST until his funeral service at 11 a.m. CST, at Gertz Funeral Home, Brook Revs. Bob Fish and Ann Pigman officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Brook, following the funeral service. Memorials contributions can be made to the Brook Public Library.
