Jamie McLeod Freed, 97, died on April 16. She was born in Leakesville, Mississippi to Benjamin and Gertrude McLeod. She had four brothers who deeply loved and cared for their only sister. Jamie graduated from the University of Alabama and received her master's in dietetics from Indiana University. While doing her residency at the IU Medial enter, she met the love of her life, Carl Adrian Freed, MD. They were married in 1942.
Jamie was a devoted Christian and member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a regular volunteer. Her professional work included working as a dietitian at Methodist Hospital and retiring after 12 years from the Indianapolis Public Schools as the acting director of food services, where she oversaw the district's lunch program. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and gardening. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage, frequently using the McLeod saying, "Hold Fast" when facing a challenge.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Adrian Freed MD. Survivors include: Carl Freed, son, Faye (Freed ) Snodgress, daughter, grandchildren-JC Freed, Aaron and Linda Freed, David Freed, Marissa (Snodgress) Kerlin, and Ben Snodgress, and five great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Maus Funeral Home, Attica Indiana. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 33rd Street and Meridian at 11:00 am on Friday April 25. A reception will follow, also at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the
