Jean Hood Harvey, 96, former Monticello resident.
Jean Hood Harvey died at home in Montgomery, Texas on April 23, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Dale W. Harvey, Sr.
Born in Carbondale, Illinois she spent her youth in Urbana, Illinois where she later graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She married Army Major Dale W. Harvey, Sr. February 6, 1937 in Urbana and they later both managed to survive the attack on Pearl Harbor where he was serving with the Dental Corps in the Pacific Theater.
Her interest involved gardening and conservative Republican Party politics, both local and national. As the National President of Pro America, she worked tirelessly along side her mentor, Phyllis Schlafly in defeating the flawed ERA movement. As a constitutionalist, she was appalled by the current administrations 'Hope and Change' policies.
She lived with her family on Lake Freeman south of Monticello while Dr. Harvey commuted to his dental practice in Lafayette.
Surviving are her three sons and wives, Dale Jr. and Bette of Montgomery, Texas, Charles and Jane of Monticello, Indiana and Thad and Cindy of Port Charlotte, Florida. Grandchildren, Stuart and Cathy Harvey, Justin Harvey, Erin Brown and Ryan, Ian Seth and Olivia Harvey. Great grandchildren, Courtney Cailey, Miles, and Reagan Harvey, and Elijah and Elizabeth Brown.
Private services are pending on Sanibel Island, Florida.
