John Charles Koci, 69, of Lafayette, IN, died in his home on Monday, September 2, 2013. He was born April 2, 1944 in Chicago to the late Charles Joseph Koci and Helen Ingrid Nelson Koci. John graduated from East Tipp High School in 1962, attended Austin Peay College and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science specializing in Leadership and Supervision in 1967. After college he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He resided in Chicago where he worked as a stockbroker in the stock exchange. Eventually he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked in sales for Honeywell and then formed his own company, Access & Video Integration, which provided residential and commercial security systems. In 2006 he moved back to Lafayette and developed and sold the eye-d-cam, a security device used by businesses to confirm identification of their customers.
His passions were woodworking, canoeing in the Wildcat Creek, spending time with his family and friends, and Purdue basketball. He also enjoyed competing in athletics, especially basketball, his entire life.
Surviving are his wife, Ann; his brother, Jim Koci (Michelle) of Mount Vernon, WA; his sister, Judi Lee (Gary) of St. Augustine, FL; stepdaughters, Emily Bible-Ramsey (Corey) of Lafayette and Jane Hankins (Mike) of Columbus, OH. Also surviving are four nieces, Gara, Larisa, Kirsten, and Rachell, as well as four granddaughters, Ivy, Zoe, Shelly, and Lily. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Ellen Stacy (Siran); a grandson, Bronson; and a granddaughter, Ellie.
