John E. Hoover

Lafayette — John Ethan Hoover, 85, Lafayette, passed away at the St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette, on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 6:15 a.m.

John was born in Watseka, IL, on September 25, 1928. He was the son of the late Tasso and Effie (Tincher) Hoover and was raised by Arthur and Avis Sheridan. John grew up east of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1947 and attended Indiana Business College in Lafayette. John moved to Lafayette in 1968.

John worked in swine production for Purdue University in the Baker Farm Swine Unit.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He had been stationed in Germany during the war.

John was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in West Lafayette. He was a member of the Lafayette Great Banquet. He loved horses and formerly raced trotters, pacers and quarter horses. He also enjoyed fishing.

On July 7, 1956, John married Elnora L. Stetler in Attica.

John leaves behind his wife, Elnora of 57 years. A son, Charles Arthur (wife-Rebecca) Hoover, Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elaina Dawn Hoover; a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Sunday, December 8th, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Reggie Alderman officiating. A committal service and burial will be held at the Greenbay Cemetery, east of Attica, on Monday, December 9th, at 10:00 a.m.
