John W. Schneider
Attica - John William Schneider, 59, Attica, passed away unexpectedly in the emergency room of the St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital, on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.
John was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on July 3, 1954. He was the son of Catherine M. (Schlosser) Schneider Plantenga of Lafayette and his late step father, Richard Plantenga and his late father, Robert F. Schneider. John was raised in Lafayette, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1975. He has resided in Attica since the late 70's and was helped raised by his grandfather, Charles Schlosser in Attica.
John formerly worked as a driver and later as a warehouse manager for Schilli Transportation in Lafayette for many years.
John enjoyed open car and stock car racing. He had formerly served as a mechanic for the Dave Lefevre sprint car racing team. For many years he transported the Lafayette Jefferson High School Band and equipment to various contests.
John had served in the United States Marine Corps during peace time.
On March 11, 1984, John married Connie J. Bender in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
He leaves behind his wife, Connie Schneider, of 30 years; a daughter, Sophia (Joe) Hattendorf, Otterbein, IN; a son, Jonathan Schneider, Attica; his mother, Catherine M. Plantenga, Lafayette; a brother, Steven (Cindy) Schneider, Lafayette; a sister, Sue (Len) Beckring, St. Louis, MO; two step brothers, Dave (Diane) Plantenga, Kokomo, IN and Tim (Roxanne) Plantenga, Monticello; five grandchildren, Nellie, Braelynn, Dakoda, Linkin and Matthew; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schneider; his step father, Richard Plantenga; mother-in-law, Gaynell Bender; grandparents, Charles & Florence Schlosser and Val & Lillian Schneider.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, March 5th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 6th, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Randall officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
