Kenneth H. Maxwell, 78

Kenneth H. Maxwell, 78, of Lafayette, formerly of Muncie, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014, at IU Health Arnett Hospital, surrounded by family. He was born on April 6, 1935, to the late Huber and Lois (Hahn) Maxwell in Muncie, IN.

He left high school in his sophomore year to join the United States Air Force, but he truly valued education. Kenneth served in the Korean War, earning four medals. He worked for Marsh Supermarkets starting as a dairy man, working his way up to manager over a period of seven years. Kenneth won a top manager award during his time at Marsh. He worked as a gear-cutter and utility man at Warner-Gear for thirty years, before retiring.

Kenneth coached youth baseball for Franklin Middle School. He enjoyed reading, history, movies, fishing, and watching birds. Kenneth loved watching sports, and was a fellow die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. There was nothing he loved more than his family, especially his grandchildren.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Karen Maxwell of Lafayette; sons, Kenny Mark of Pendleton, Kevin Maxwell (wife, Trish) of Otterbein; brother, James Maxwell of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Sarah Maxwell, Julia Maxwell, Anna Maxwell, Emerson Maxwell, Taylor Mortimore, Clayton Brutus, Paige Brutus; great-grandchildren, Patton Mortimore, and Edison Mortimore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Norma Ault, and Beverly Maxwell.

Visitation for Kenneth will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie. There will be a private service for his family with burial to follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
