Margaret O. (Osterling) Grond, 95, of West Lafayette, passed away at 10 a.m., Monday, April 01, 2013 at Westminster Village. Born May 10, 1917 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Martha (Hemstra) Osterling. She attended Lafayette Jefferson High School.
Margaret had also resided in California, Washington D.C. and Kansas City.
Her first marriage was to Lloyd Emerson Parker on October 8, 1939 and he was lost in the South Pacific in September of 1943. She married William H. Grond on June 1, 1958 and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1998. She had worked as a secretary, clerk, and bookkeeper for Purdue University,
Osterling Bookkeeping, and Ross Gear. She was a member of Heartland Community Church and a past member of the Sewing Club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting.
Surviving is a daughter, Dorothy J. Simerly of San Jose, CA, a niece, Marilyn Barrick of West Lafayette, and nephews Richard Chubb of Arkansas, Warren Osterling, Lowell Osterling, Charles Schrader, Steve Schrader and Philip Schrader all of the Lafayette area. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Friday, April 5, 2013 at Hippensteel Funeral Home, Pastor Drew Poppleton officiating.
