Marilyn Kay (Whitus) Doss, 70
The Guest Book is expired.
Marilyn Kay (Whitus) Doss, 70, peacefully passed away August 29, 2014, soothed by and nestled between her loved ones. Marilyn was born on March 22, 1944. She was employed by the YMCA and Purdue University, later retiring from City Bus.
Marilyn was a character in life. Remembered for her uncensored wit, feistiness, and storytelling, which delighted her family during dinners and celebrations. The party didn't start until grandma arrived. Marilyn's charitable and generous spirit made the loads of others lighter. She loved thrifting, moviegoing, reading, watching her soaps, & providing antidotes courtesy of Dr. Oz. She enjoyed socializing and derived pleasure from brunches and outings with numerous siblings and special friends. Marilyn sparkled while chatting outside on her swing during treasured, unannounced visits from those she held dear. Marilyn never met a stranger, and loved listening with a genuine interest to the stories and lives of others. As her physical strength was stripped away, Marilyn became a radiant beacon, one came away with more empathy and understanding after spending time with her. Marilyn's legacy lies within the close-knit children and grandchildren that she raised on her own with a tenacious resiliency. A tough-cookie who taught life lessons in assertiveness, compassion, and devotion. To her family, Marilyn exemplified grace and emanated love, she will be so deeply missed.
Marilyn is survived by her children Carla (Steve) Payne, Angi (Don) Jackson, Tom Doss, Leigh (Rob) James. Grandchildren: Jeanni Bresnahan (Matt Emery), Brody (Katie) Doss, Bayli Jackson (Shelby Yoder), Alexis, Nathan, Madison James, Keaton Bresnahan, Blair & Emma Doss. Siblings include: Lil (Ron) Reifel, Ron Whitus, Bill (Cora) Whitus, Bob (Heidi) Whitus, Mike (Susie) Whitus, Denny (Maxine) Whitus, and Ray Whitus. In addition Marilyn had numerous great & step grandchildren and was a surrogate grandma to many throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Estel Whitus and Doris (Shelton) Whitus and sister Carol (Whitus) Becker.
A celebration of Marilyn's rich & beautiful life will be held at a later date. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com
