Mary B. (Smelcer) Cooper, 85

Mary B. (Smelcer) Cooper, 85, of Lafayette died at 2:20 am, Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Mulberry Health and Rehabilitation Center, Mulberry after complications from a stroke.

She was born on January 17, 1929 in Clarks Hill to the late Dessie and Anna (Cooksey) Smelcer. She was a 1947 graduate of Clarks Hill High School. Mary married the love of her life Joseph Keith Cooper on February 21, 1948 at Clarks Hill Methodist Church. They were married for 66 years. Keith survives.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Lafayette and more recently attended Wea Ridge Baptist Church. Mary worked at Purdue University as an Information Clerk and retired in 1994. She also volunteered at St. Ann's Soup Kitchen for 20 + years.

She loved people and enjoyed company, she loved to laugh and was always happy. She was a great cook and loved to travel with her daughters. Above all, Mary cherished the time she spent with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Cooper; 3 daughters, Jackie Dodt (husband: Keven) of Lafayette, Jill Kidder (husband: John) of Lafayette; Julie Meyers (husband: Brad) of Battle Ground; 2 sisters, Jean Kemper of Lafayette, Ethel Wallace of Huntsville, AL; 5 grandchildren, Molly Dodt, Jonathon Kidder, Amy Meyers, Shana Meyers, and Nathan Meyers; and 2 great grandchildren, Isabella Dodt and Christian Dodt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dessie and Anna Smelcer, and a brother Joe Smelcer.

Friends may call from 4 pm - 8 pm, Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the chapel at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Funeral Service will be 10 am, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, Chapel with Rev. Dwight Johns, Retired, of First Assembly of God and Rev. Dan Fager of Wea Ridge Baptist Church officiating.

Interment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Memorial Contributions may be given in Mary's name to the Gideons.
