Mary Catherine Thomson Smith, 95, formerly of Delphi, died on Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Monticello, Indiana.
Born August 2, 1918 in Madison Township, Carroll County, Indiana, the daughter of the late James N. and Alma Kearns Thomson, she was the descendant of twelve Carroll County pioneers. In 1935 she graduated from Flora High School, attended Purdue University and worked in Chicago, Illinois before her marriage to John Thomas Smith who preceded her in death on July 19, 1992.
She was a member of the Delphi Presbyterian Church where she had served as deacon and taught Sunday School. She was a member of Tri Kappa. For many years Catherine demonstrated braided rug construction and clothes pin doll making for the Carroll County Historical Society and was both a Life Member of the organization and a First Family of Carroll County.
A Life Member of the Wabash & Erie Canal Society, she was secretary in the formative years. She had also served on the board of the Delphi Public Library.
Surviving is a sister, Jane Thomson Bishop and her husband Dick N. Bishop.
Also surviving are nieces Eleanor Sprowl, Carol Grubb and Mary Anne Hoffman, and nephews James C. Vianco, Dick T. Bishop and Peter D. Bishop and several great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by sisters Helen Smith and Betty Vianco.
Calling will be from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi, with a private family graveside service in the Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
Memorials may be given to the Wabash & Erie Canal Society, the Carroll County Historical Society, the Delphi Public Library and the Delphi Presbyterian Church.
