Nancy L. Vonic, 74, of Queensbury, NY, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born December 27, 1938, in Brookston, IN, the daughter of Charles and Julia (Phillips) Haderle, Nancy married Dr. Mijo Vonic, her husband of 25 years, on August 13, 1966, in Glens Falls, NY.
Nancy graduated in the class of 1956 from Brookston High School, Brookston, IN, and was a 1961 alumna of Purdue University, having earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue's English department. After a 36-year career teaching eighth-grade English, Nancy retired from South Glens Falls Central School District.
Nancy was active in many local civic organizations. She was past vice chairman of the board of Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC). She had served on the Board of Directors and held offices for the Lake George Opera Festival, Lake George Opera Guild, International Arts and Culture Association, St. Mary's Academy, Mohican Council Catholic Committee of Boy Scouting, American Association of University Women, and Soroptimist International of the Adirondacks.
Nancy passionately supported higher education and her alma mater through her involvement as a long-time member of Purdue University's President's Council and as a very valued member of the Purdue Libraries' Dean's Advisory Council.
As a life-long learner, Nancy explored literature, the arts, and culture, uniquely integrating her studies with travel, having visited all seven continents.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Brenda) Vonic and grandchildren, Magdalena, Nathan, and Julia Vonic, of Hampshire, IL; brother, Robert (Mary Lou) Haderle, of West Lafayette, IN; sister, Caroline (Gordon) Wright, of West Lafayette, IN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mijo; and sister, Joan (Dan) Luther.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 8, 2013, at Church of St. Mary & St. Paul, 11 Wall Street, Hudson Falls, NY, with Very Rev. Thomas Babiuch officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
