Robert L. Chambers, 87, of Lafayette, went to be with his Lord at 12:17 am January 2, 2014, at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette. He was born September 28, 1926, in Lebanon, to the late Russell and Karine Lewis Chambers. Bob graduated from Purdue University in 1951 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He married Marilyn Rose Chambers in Ft. Wayne, November 17, 1951 and they lived in Ft. Wayne, Gas City and Columbia City before moving to Lafayette. He worked at RCA in Marion, for 35 years as a supervisor before retiring. Robert was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was a life member of Purdue Alumni Association. Bob was an Eagle Scout and earned the Silver Beaver Award, as well as a scoutmaster for a scout troop in Gas City, for 20 years. Bob shared his passion for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also quite an accomplished pool player. In his retirement years he won a number of individual tournaments as well as league championships. Surviving along with his spouse of 62 years, Marilyn, are three sons, Charles D. Chambers, Thomas Lewis Chambers (Julia) and Steven J. Chambers (Janna) all of Lafayette; a daughter Sylvia Garrison of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Andrew, Amy, Jacob, Connor and Alyssa; and a sister Jane Cassell of Lebanon. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. with service at 7 p.m. January 7, 2014, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909 with Pastor David Doane officiating. A private burial will be at Gardens of Memory in Marion. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to Riley Hospital for Children or Cary Boy Scout Camp.
