George T. Evans, 82, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. He was born May 20, 1931, in Harnett County, to Lonza and Eunice Evans. He was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and Wake Forest University. He worked as a chemical engineer and specialized in off-road tires, retiring from the Michelin Company.

George was a Past Master and 33rd Degree Mason with the Wayfarer Lodge #789 and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was involved with biological and chemical weapons research. He attended The Chapel at Fir Hill, was an avid boater on the Portage Lakes and spent his time doing construction and remodeling with his son, Paul. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to family reunions and spending the winters at Topsail Beach.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra; son, Paul (Kelly); grandson, Aaron Christopher Evans; and sisters, Joanne House, Carolyn Martson, and Jackie Ledbetter.

Friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Road with The Wayfarer Lodge conducting a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville. The New River Masonic Lodge #736 will conduct a Masonic Service following the visitation, at Onslow Memorial Park, 3280 Richlands Highway, Jacksonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the , 2202 Wrightsville Avenue, Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403 in memory of George.
