JACKSONVILLE - Gunnery Sgt. Walter Sheridan Stull, Jr., USMC Retired, 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Premier Nursing and Rehab Center.

Walter was born in Frederick, Md. on April 12, 1920 and was the son of the late Walter and Mary Engelbrecht Stull. He served his country honorably with the United States Marine Corps and retired as a gunny sergeant in 1959 after 21 years. He was awarded six military medals including medals for his World War II service and the Good Conduct medal. After he retired from the military, he spent seven years in the hotel industry and then served for 16 years with the United States Postal Service in Puerto Rico. Walter was an avid baseball fan and loved his Baltimore Orioles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Josephine Puig Stull and brother, Lincoln Stull.

He is survived by three sons, Walter Stull, III (Diane) of Brunswick, Md., Juan Stull (Nancy) of Jefferson, Md., and Joseph Stull (Joyce) of Denver, N.C.; one daughter, Mary Havranck (Robert) of Rockledge, Fla.; one brother Henry Stull (Dorothy) of Frederick, Md.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Walter will also be remembered by his special friends, Stella Blake and Jim and Susan Grochan.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel, with the Rev. Rick Moser officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Northwoods United Methodist Church, 1528 Gum Branch Road, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
