Alidor Lowell Vanderport Notice
Vanderport, Alidor Lowell Passed away on February 17, 2014, with family at his side. He was born to Clara and Oscar Vanderport on February 16, 1927 in Superior, Wisconsin and was the youngest of their four children. Alidor spent his childhood growing up in Superior, WI, during the Great Depression. He was shaped by this experience as he learned the value of hard-work and independence. Alidor served in the Navy aboard the USS Enterprise during WWII. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and his Master's Degree from the University of Iowa. He married Elizabeth Stachelski on August 11, 1948. In 1955, Alidor and Elizabeth moved to Milwaukee where he began teaching political science and economics and Milwaukee Area Technical College. Alidor later became Dean of Students at the college and helped to shape its transition to a collegiate campus. He later became the Director of Student Affairs, a job he loved until his retirement in 1989. Alidor is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth and their four children, Valerie (Brian Hollingshead), Jefferson (Maureen Massey); Greg and Craig. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah, Libby, and Olivia and two great-grandchildren, Cylas and Faethe. Alidor and Elizabeth moved to Mukilteo, Washington in February, 2013, where he had many happy family gatherings. A funeral Mass celebrating Alidor's life will be held February 22, 2014, at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Everett, Washington. Burial will be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NAMI, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, an organization that Alidor gave years of volunteer service to.
