Dahms, Donald Emil On January 29, 2014, Don entered into Eternal Life at age 90, joining his beloved wife Bertha. He was a devoted family man and loving father of Susan (Chris) and Nancy (Lyle); grandfather of Benjamin and Rebecca; and great-grandfather of Jalen and Anthony. Don was born May 26, 1923 in Milwaukee; the youngest of five children to Gustav and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his siblings Harold (Marge), Raymond (Marge), Evelyn (George) and Mildred (Lambert). Following graduation from West Allis Central High School, Don honorably served in WWII in the 382nd Anti-Air Craft Automatic Weapons Battalion of the U.S. Army, was in the New Guinea and Luzon Battles and service in Japan. Don was a manager for Sentry grocery stores in Milwaukee for over 25 years, and later managed an IGA grocery store in New Berlin prior to his retirement. He had many interests, including: bowling, cards, dabbling in investments and had a special fondness for his canine companions. He was an avid Packers and Brewers fan, and would offer much commentary during Brewers' games from his experience as a player/manager of his city baseball league team called the "Unknowns". One of Don's greatest passions in life was the game of golf and he enjoyed challenging his skills at the many golf courses in southeastern Wisconsin. Don's family extends a sincere thank you to the staff at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and LindenGrove-Menomonee Falls who made his final months comfortable. Visitation will be held on Sat., Feb. 1, at ST. MARGARET MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3970 N. 92nd St., Milwaukee, from 9:30 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Private interment Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Don's name may be made to the Fisher House, Wisconsin.
