Redmond, Doris (Nee Roethke) Died peacefully on January 13, 2013, at the age of 93. Resident of the Congregational Home former longtime resident of Glendale and River Hills. Beloved wife for 63 years of the late George F. Redmond. Loving mother of Molly (Steve Ring) Redmond of St. Paul, MN, Kate (Noel Cutright) Redmond of Saukville, WI, and Gail Elizabeth Redmond of Kennan, WI. Proud grandmother of Mike (Flannery Clarke) Ring, Robyn (Drew Meadows) Cutright, Seth and Laurel Cutright. Dear sister of Dr. Anne Roethke of Florida and of the late Margaret Sheffer. Aunt of Laura Purdy of Appleton, WI, Maria Ali of California, and great-aunt of Dan (Karen) Steiner of Appleton, WI. Step-grandmother of Amy (Tim) Mozey, Julie (Joseph) Niswonger, Tammy (Matt) Holzer and Gail Marie (William) Ring. Further survived by other relatives, and good friends. Doris was born on April 19, 1919 the daughter of Rudolf Walter and Agnes (nee Steinhagen) Roethke in Milwaukee, the first of three daughters. She attended the Milwaukee University School, Swarthmore College and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Doris married George F. Redmond of the law firm von Briesen and Redmond in 1942. She taught fourth grade at the Dean School in Brown Deer for ten years and was a longtime member of the Junior League. Doris grew up horseback riding, hunting and fishing, and had a lifelong love of the outdoors that she instilled in her daughters. She took up kayaking and enjoyed paddling in the Gulf of Mexico, Kentucky, and on Wisconsin Lakes. Doris was interested in decoys, wood carving, painting and she made many wooden ducks and other birds. She also loved classical music, golden retrievers, and reading. Doris and George discovered Sanibel Island in the late 1950's and had many happy memories there. Her love of family and friends, her generosity, quiet dignity, and great good humor will be deeply missed. A memorial service is planned for April. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Doris's name may be made to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, 101 West Pleasant Street, Milwaukee, WI 53212 or Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever, Inc. (WAAGR), 12605 West North Avenue, #285, Brookfield, WI 53005.
