Eliot M. Bernstein Notice
Bernstein, Eliot M. Born June 11, 1922, died on October 16, 2013, his 47th wedding anniversary. Preceded in death by his parents Esau and Nettie Bernstein, his wife Fay Bernstein (nee Abrams) and his sister Ruth Sweet. After graduating from Marquette University, Eliot deferred law school to enlist in the U.S. Army, and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. On his return and graduation from Marquette Law School, Eliot practiced law in Milwaukee for over 60 years. Known for his wisdom and his compassion, Eliot spent his life building community and working to ensure that every human being is treated with fairness and dignity. Throughout his life, Eliot valued his family above all. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Bernstein (nee Kappelmann); daughter Ellen Bernstein Rickun; sons Nathan (Shannon), Joshua (Aleyna), Aaron (Dr. Deborah) Bernstein; grandchildren Janet (Brian) Henning, Phillip Rickun, Isaac, Talia, Noah and Max Bernstein. He is further survived by his sister Doris Karp, brother-in-law Norbert Sweet and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services Friday, October 18, at 11:30 AM, AT THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, 166 S. Hawley Ct., Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Jewish Museum Milwaukee or the appreciated.
