James Dern "Jim" Dick Notice
Dick, James Dern "Jim" New London, passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on October 9, 2013, at the age of 74. Jim was born to Robert and Margaret Dick of Salt Lake City, Utah on April 19, 1939. Jim grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where he was an avid skier. He attended college at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, and New York University in NYC. He worked in banking as a loan officer in New York City. In 1970, he moved Milwaukee, WI where he worked in various positions including finance officer, stock broker, and a stock research analyst. While in Milwaukee, Jim enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center, where he was an instructor and participated in races. Following the death of his first wife, Barbara, Jim moved to the fox cities to be closer to his grandchildren. He was introduced to square dancing, and graduated from the Romeo and Calicos Square Dance Club in 1998. Through square dancing, Jim met his second wife, Ardell (June). They were married in Appleton on Valentine's Day in 2001. In retirement, Jim and Ardell traveled extensively, and moved to a warmer climate in Quartzsite, AZ. He enjoyed keeping active with desert golf and Jeep excursions with the gem club. Their summers were spent near the lakes in the Shawano area. They moved back to Wisconsin permanently when Jim's health began to fail. Jim will be dearly missed, and will live on in the memories of those that loved him. He is survived by his wife, Ardell June Dick, sister, Nancy (Richard) Maurer, sons, Robert (Melissa) Dickenson, and Staffan VanDyke, grandchildren James, Laura, and Wil Dickenson, and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by Ardell's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Barbara Dick. A memorial service for Jim was held on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 3:00 PM at the Cline & Hanson Funeral in New London. A gathering of family and friends took place at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
