John B. Clementi Notice
Clementi, John B. Born September 22, 1925. Passed away after a long and productive life June 19, 2014 at age 88. Preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife of 57 years Dolores (nee Gelak), daughter Deborah Attewell (John), and brothers Charles (Lila) and Peter (MaryAnn) Clementi. Brother of Dr. David Dapra (Joycette) of Reno, Nevada. Devoted father of Dennis Clementi, Diane Clementi (Charles Kreimendahl), and Christine King (Michael). Loving grandfather of John A. Clementi, Leah Clementi, Michael Attewell (Krista), Lauren Attewell, and Trevor King. Great-grandfather to Jacob and Matthew Attewell. Born in Ironwood, Michigan to Anna and Pietro Clementi, John served in the United States Army in the later stages of World War II as a radio technician. After the war he attended Michigan Technological University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation he worked several years for the Frigidaire division of General Motors Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. In 1956 he transferred to GM's AC Spark Plug Division (later Delco Electronics) in Milwaukee and later Oak Creek. His professional focus was on the science and technology of heat transfer and over the years he applied that expertise to a number of military and commercial inertial guidance and targeting systems. His career highlights were his work on the Apollo program's Command Module guidance computer and the M1 Main Battle Tank turret leveling and targeting system. In addition, he earned his license as a Professional Engineer. After leaving General Motors, he worked as the Assistant Director of Repairs for the Milwaukee Public Schools until his retirement. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, his cottage in Eagle River, bread making, and was a talented woodworker. He also had a keen interest in local, national and world politics and business. He was always happiest working with his hands. Whether building the house he lived in for 57 years, tinkering with unusual automobiles, building keepsakes for his family, or endless electronic or mechanical projects, he was a born tinkerer. In keeping with John's wishes, private family services will take place. Purath-Strand Funeral Home & Crematory 3915 Douglas Avenue Racine, WI 262-639-8000 www.purath-strand.com
