Brooks, Joseph D. 89, Waterford, WI, died Monday, August 19, 2013, in Burlington, WI. He was born September 24, 1923 in Zanesville, OH, the son of Clark and Emma (Aber) Brooks. Joe served with Lima Company, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines during
World War II
. He participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal-Solomon Islands, where he earned the
; and in the Battle of Cape Gloucester-New Guinea. He graduated from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio where he met his wife, Dorothy (Dennis). They moved to Zanesville, where he worked as a sales representative for Black and Grant Wholesale Dry Goods Co. In 1961 the family moved to Stevens Point. He worked for Medick-Barrows Co. and later for Hartcraft Frame Co., Hartford, selling to photography studios in Wisconsin and the surrounding states. He is survived locally by his wife Dorothy, sons Martin, Milwaukee, Tony, Waterford, also by children Patricia, David, Thomas, Gregory, Cynthia, and their families, all in Wisconsin. The family is grateful for the care of the Veterans Affairs hospitals and staff in Union Grove, Madison and Milwaukee, as well as the staff of Burlington Hospital.
