Joseph J. Hosmanek Notice
Hosmanek, Joseph J. "The Sarge of the 658th has fallen!" Devoted husband of Dawn (nee Dinkel-man). Proud father of Jodeen, Max (Celina), Dan (Ellen), Jilan (Jeff Kerznar), Sally (Pete Schultz), and Eileen (Ken Dupar). Loving grandfather of Erin, Martin, Emmy Lou, Hans, John and Grace, and great-grandfather of Milo. Brother to Ann (Narloch), John and Susan (Zembrzuski). Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Further survived by other relatives and countless friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be March 18, 2014 at Divine Mercy Church on Marquette Ave. in South Milwaukee at 12:00 PM. Visitation on Tuesday at church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Joe was a proud member of the Carrolville Slovak community. He courageously and honorably served his country in WWII as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army's 658th Amphibious Corps during the liberation of the Philippine Islands. In civilian life he worked first as a police officer for the South Milwaukee Police Department and then as a Building Manager for the Ladish Company as well as a real estate agent for Mark Realty. In retirement, Joe fully enjoyed life. He served as Commander of VFW Post 3742, was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and the American Legion Post 27 and was an Honor Flight participant in 2010. He was also a member of the South Milwaukee Old Goats Club. A very special thank you to all of the staff at Aurora St. Lukes, Franciscan Villa, Select Specialty Hospital, the Zilber Family Hospice and especially Dr. Stephen Lamberton for the amazing care and comfort afforded Joe and his family: angels do walk among us! When God finally sounded Taps, Joe died peacefully with family at his side. In lieu of flowers, Joe would be deeply touched to have any donations made in his name to the Honor Flight Program for the incredible work it does in recognizing our nation's veterans.
