Ward Roland Andacht Notice
Andacht, Ward Roland Age 95, passed away at his home on May 5, 2013. Ward was born in Milwaukee, WI, on December 2, 1917 to Elsie (nee Kuenzel) and Reinhart Andacht. Ward was the surviving sibling of sisters Dorothy Andacht (nee Nicklebein), Janice Andacht (nee Musil) and brother Donald Andacht. Ward served his country on the home front in the Armed Forces during WWII as a radio technician. Ward met his future wife Joyce Charlotte Frank at the Palomar Roller Rink in Milwaukee, WI, where they shared their passion for roller-skating and each other. They were married in St. Mathew's Catholic Church, Milwaukee, on August 5, 1944. Ward was a professional roller-skating instructor and taught at the Palomar Roller Rink in Milwaukee, WI; Red's Roller Rink in Racine, WI; and Sherman Park Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, WI. Ward's students competed regularly at the National Roller Skating Championships and preformed in his annual Ice Capaide like roller skating shows, which he choreographed and produced. After his retirement from the Railway Express Agency, Ward pursued a forgotten passion; golf and coached his daughter through years of play together. Ward traveled extensively throughout Europe with his wife Joyce, returning many times to the mountains of his beloved Austria and Germany. He was the quintessential Opa at school functions attending plays, concerts, sporting events and family gatherings. Ward was a life-long Packer fan, instilling in his sons the same passion for the game and this team with season tickets at County Stadium long before Vince Lombardi arrived in Lambeau. Ward is survived by his son Chris Andacht, wife Jane Andacht (nee Lamb) with grandchildren Jenny Ewing (nee Andacht), Kate Andacht and Amelia Andacht, daughter Joycelyn Andacht-Jones, husband Richard Jones with grandchild Maggie Jones, and son James Andacht, wife Christy Andacht (nee Rounds), with grandchildren Michael Andacht, Jeffry Andacht, Brett Andacht and Madeline "Joyce" Andacht. The family held a private mass for Ward, and a private celebration for Opa's life is planned in Minocqua, WI, at the "Andacht" cabin on Great Bass Lake, which Ward built with his wife Joyce in 1951 and where all the family has enjoyed endless summers, autumns' repose, and winter get-a-ways.
