Yvonne Anthony, A Woman for All Seasons... I don't know how to begin to tell you about this remarkable woman. Should I begin by telling you that she was the third of 5 children of Helen and James Arrieh who were sent to the United States as children at the turn of the century from Lebanon to escape from Turkish oppression. And that they started their own grocery stores and real estate company without any education or family to help them. And how she and her brothers and sisters all worked in the business as children during the depression and as young adults. Thus instilling in her the incredible work ethic that she was always known for. Or should I tell you about her stellar academic career at Downer College and graduate school at Northwestern University. And how her parents preached to her and her siblings that education, education, education was the key to their successful future in America. And proceeded to send mother and her siblings to some of the most respected schools in the country including: Harvard Law School, the University of Wisconsin, Downer College, Northwestern University Graduate School, the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan Graduate School, the University of California-Berkley and NYU Graduate School. And that mother's love of learning lead her to a career as an inspirational teacher, award winning debate coach, creative theatre director and women's basketball coach. Oh, I guess I forgot to tell you that she was also an incredible athlete an accomplished equestrian, competitive tennis player and avid golfer. One other little fact that might interest you was that mother was 5ft. tall, or so she claimed and about 90Ibs. soaking wet! There is no wonder her nick name was mighty mouse but I beg to differ, she was mighty but no mouse! She married my father, Charles, the love of her life in 1950 and proceeded to immediately start a family, since back in those days they were considered old being married at close to 30 years old. So began the favorite part of her life, being a loving, nurturing, supportive, encouraging, fun, beautiful wife and mother. My mother was totally loyal to my father and dedicated to my brother, sister and me. She left no stone unturned in order to expose us to every opportunity out there whether it be academic, athletic, cultural or musical. Her mission was to find our individual passions and talents and then focus on them, all the while treating us as individuals and never comparing one to the other. No wonder we refer to our mother and Dad as our life coaches, they truly were just that with a lot of love added to the mix. Mother brought her passion for people and true concern for their happiness and success to every role and person in her life as a daughter, a sister, a mother, a mother in law, an aunt, a cousin, a friend, a community volunteer, a civic leader, a grandmother and the one she felt so blessed to be a great grandmother. From your 3 children, your 8 grandchildren and your 6 great grandchildren, thank you, thank you for your unconditional love, your unending dedication, abounding energy and incredible wisdom. We were all so lucky to be blessed with you as our role model. So now and always we listen to your words of wisdom to us "ever onward". XO Best regards,
