Michael E. Cimino, age 71, entered eternal life on Sunday, August 17, 2014, with his loving family by his side.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy (nee Darguzis); loving children, Kristi (James) Williams and Michael (Erin) Cimino; cherished grandchildren, Caine, Cole, Meaghan, Madisyn, McKenna, and Addyson; dear brother, Bob (Carol) Cimino; dear sister, Barb Giaimo; loving sisters-in-law, Jan Gould and Mary Lynn Behringer; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore (Sam) Cimino and Mildred Osborne; brothers, Francis and Eugene Cimino; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Cimino; brothers-in-law, Don Gould and Jack Behringer.
Michael was born in Carbondale, PA and moved to Joliet in 1954 where he graduated from Joliet Catholic High School, class of 1961. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. Michael was employed at Olin Chemical and Harrah's Casino. He was also a member of the Moran AC and Stone City VFW Post #2199. Michael was an organ donor to Gift of Hope.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of doctors and nurses at Presence St. Joseph Neuro ICU, Optima Medical, Dr. De Girolami, and Dr. Wu for the compassion, care, and support provided to Michael and his family.
A Celebration of Michael's life will begin on Thursday, August 21, 2014, with a visitation from 9:15 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale, Fr. Jim Lennon officiating. There will be no visitation or services held at the funeral home. Per Michael's wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will take place privately on Michael's birthday, August 22, 2014, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
