Roy Bobo Obituary
Roy Emory Bobo, 86, former resident of Merino, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in Denver. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Wildwood Bible Church, Merino. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Roy was born Feb. 7, 1928, at his grandparents' farm in Chappell, Neb., to Charles and Elsie (Hart) Bobo. He attended school to eighth grade. At age 16 he joined U.S. Maritime service. The government had a wartime program that 16 year olds could join. After training in Catalina Island, he shipped out on Steamship American Arrow SS, a tanker taking fuel to islands to supply airplanes and bases. At 17 he enlisted in the Navy with permission by his parents. He served on USS Anderson and USS EG Small. He went to Japan after the surrender and France in 1948. On July 28, 1948, he married Shirley Thompson in McCook, Neb. They raised four children: Lanalle, Chuck, Penny and Reb. Roy was a mechanic, farmer, stock car driver, Boy Scout leader, town marshal, husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved boating with family, dancing with his wife and watching his sons play ball. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; daughter, Penny; sister, Viola; brothers, Derald and Merle Bobo. He is survived by daughter, Lanalle and Ron Lechman; sons, Chuck and Maureen Bobo of Denver, Reb and Karen Bobo of San Antonio, Fla.; six grandchildren, Nathan Lechman of Merino, Roni Lechman Mathewson of Merino, Heather and Derek Bowman of Denver, Summer and Mike Dancer of Highlands Ranch, Alyssa and Scott Henson of Florida, Taylor Bobo of Florida; great-grandchildren, Wade, Tayah, Lacy, Emory, Addison and Zoey; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
