Daniel "Dan" S. Kalk, 75, of Enfield, former director of the Enfield Public Library, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Evergreen Health Care Center in Stafford.

Dan was born Feb. 3, 1938, son of the late Daniel and Velda Kalk in Elkhart, Ind. He was a resident of the Enfield community for over 35 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts in botany and German from DePaul University, Master of Arts in library science from Indiana University, and continued his education in postgraduate studies at the University of London, School of Librarianship in bibliographical botany. Dan was formerly employed for the Milwaukee Public Library, Trenton State College Library, Hunt Botanical Library at Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Bridgeport Reference Library, Hunter College Library, and Yale University Medical School Library. Dan served as the director for the Enfield Public Library before retiring in 1987. He continued to serve the community as a volunteer at the library for many years. He formerly served on the Enfield Beautification Committee for the town of Enfield and enjoyed gardening in his leisure time.
Dan leaves many dear friends.
Funeral services for Dan will be held Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Interment will be in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, Ind.
Friends are invited to visit and share reflections and experiences of Dan's life on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
