Elwood R. "Bill" Maneeley, 83, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Marilyn (Ready) Maneeley, died peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Hartford Hospital.

He was born on April 30, 1930, in Malone, N.Y., son of the late J. Roy and Gladys (Wood) Maneeley. Bill grew up on his family's dairy farm in upstate New York. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served our country during the Korean War, and subsequently met the love of his life while serving on Ellis Island, Marilyn Ready. Bill came to Connecticut to seek his fortune, working for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in plant engineering. Marilyn followed, and they were married in July of 1959. Together they settled in East Hartford, where they raised a family. In 1979, Bill and Marilyn moved to Sanford, Maine, where they lived until Bill's retirement in 1985. Upon his retirement they moved back to South Windsor, where he spent the last 29 years. Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge in East Hartford and Sanford, Maine, and the Masonic Lodge in East Hartford. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting in his younger years. Bill loved to travel and enjoyed cruises and spending time in Old Vegas. He was an avid New York Yankees, UConn Huskies, and New York Knicks fan. Bill was a super man with a wonderful personality who was devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed.

He leaves his sons, Bruce Maneeley and his friend, Sandy Dimitratos, of East Windsor, Craig Maneeley and his wife, Lisa, of South Windsor, and Neal Maneeley and his wife, Heather, of Tolland; four grandchildren, Nicole, Travis, Jessica, and Tyler Maneeley; his friend and companion, June Barrett of Manchester; his daughter-in-law, Joanne Maneeley of South Windsor; and his nephews, Robert Gleason and George and Toni Gleason all of New York. He was predeceased by his sisters, Georgess Maneeley Steenberge and Gwyneth Maneeley Gleason; best friends James Ready and Mert "Willie" Litchel.

His family will receive friends today, April 9, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Center Cemetery, South Windsor.
