John V. Vella, 83, a lifelong resident of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Saint Francis Hospital.

Born on Aug. 21, 1929, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield; he was the son of the late Vincent and Josephine (Falzone) Vella, and the beloved husband of 56 years to Jane F. (Olschafskie) Vella. John was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War and World War II. He was a meat manager at the First National Supermarket for many years. John was a founding member and communicant of Holy Family Church. He often prepared meals for various church functions and volunteered for the church bingo. John was a lifetime member of the Rinaldi-Fede Post No. 17 Italian American War Veterans and a member of the color guard. He was an avid golfer and certainly a Red Sox fan. He enjoyed bowling, being a bird watcher, and taking care of his bird feeders. He also enjoyed his two cats. John will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
Besides his wife, Jane, John is survived by his children, Anne Fantone, and her husband, James, of Wethersfield, Marie Corcoran, and her husband, Dan, of Enfield, James Vella of Enfield, John Vella, and his partner, Matt Riederer, of Budd Lake, N.J., Jeffrey Vella, and his wife, Miriam, of Enfield; the joy of his life were his four loving grandchildren, Adam, Jennifer, Michael, and Mariah. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Charles Vella, and his sister, Frances Scrivano.
Visitation hours will be on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield. At the request of the family, everyone should meet at church. Burial will be held in Saint Patrick, King Street Cemetery, Enfield.
