Marie Yates Heughins, 71, of Manchester, died comfortably at home Sunday, June 8, 2014, after a 14-year journey with Alzheimer's. From the arms of her husband, David W Heughins, to the arms of Jesus, with minimal fear or suffering, her last sentient words were, "I love my life."
The Guest Book is expired.
Marie was the daughter of the late Gilbert Yates and Mary (Jo) Yates, both of Lubec, Maine, and Wallingford. She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, Wallingford, Eastern Nazarene College, and the University of Minnesota. Her passion was teaching young children to read and to love Jesus. She served public schools in Halifax, Massachusetts, Oakland, California, Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Winnipeg Manitoba (learning difficulties resource teacher), and the private "I'm Special" Learning Center, Wallingford, and Cornerstone Christian School, Manchester. Marie was a charter member of Wallingford Church of the Nazarene and directed various children's ministries at Nazarene churches in North St. Paul, Minnesota, Winnipeg, and Wallingford. She remained active in the Manchester Church of the Nazarene as long as consciousness allowed. She also enjoyed crafts, grandchildren, and long walks.
She is survived by brother, David Yates of Lubec; children, MaryBeth Rulevich of Manchester, and William G Heughins of Tolland; and three grandchildren, Christina Heughins, Austin Soucy, and Nikolas Soucy of Manchester.
We will celebrate Marie's home going at Manchester Church of the Nazarene at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14.
