Sandra M. (Cheney) Bonk, 74, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, following a six-year battle with stage 4 breast cancer.

Sandy was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Springfield, the daughter of Muriel A. Cheney and the late George A. Cheney.

She is survived by two brothers, David, and his companion, Sherri Arseneault, of Suffield, and Kenneth and Gloria Cheney of Phelon, Calif.; two sisters, Judy and John Davis of Feeding Hills, Mass., and Cynthia and Albert Cocola of Niantic; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves two wonderful and supportive best friends, Blair Fisk and Darlene Mercure, and special friends, Sue Roberts, Sharon and Gerald Kumnick, Marsha Evans, Joan Krogh, Barbara Demarais, and very special cousin, Sandy Otis.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Reale, Brian, Doris Byrem, all the nursing staff at DeQuatro, Dr. Kim and staff in the Radiology Department, Mell from the Lab, the "Ambassador," Mark, the Visiting Nurse Association, especially Allison, Sandie, Nancy, Kelly, and her caregiver, Joyce.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. with a celebration of life service at 5 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations made be St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104; or the Little Sisters of The Poor, St. Joseph's Residence, 1365 Enfield St., Enfield, CT 06082.

Sandy requests people wear bright clothing or the color pink.
