David Papapietro Obituary

David "Corky" Papapietro, 65, of Enfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

Husband of Lucinda "Cindy" Oakes Papapietro, Corky was born Oct. 14, 1948, to James and Jean Peterson Papapietro. Corky served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, obtaining the rank of sergeant. He achieved expert missile gunner, and was one of four awarded a medal of recognition by the general. He started working as a cook at the El Dorado Diner in Bristol followed by the East Windsor Grill. In 1988, he opened Corky's Restaurant in Bristol with his family working by his side until 2000. He retired from Skooter's in Windsor Locks in 2013. Corky was an avid Yankees and "anyone-who-beat-the-Red-Sox" fan. He also loved watching UConn men and women's basketball. He loved playing cards and taking anyone's money. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. Corky took great pride in his beautiful green lawn and admired it from his favorite spot, the hammock. Above all, Corky loved just spending time with his family. Corky was quick witted, with a great sense of humor. He could often be found playing practical jokes on family and friends whenever he had a chance. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his loving wife, he leaves three sons, Daniel Papapietro of Goshen, Kentucky, Matthew Papapietro of Enfield, and Nathan, and his wife, Melissa Papapietro, of Terryville. He also leaves the joys of his life, his three beautiful granddaughters, Sela Papapietro of Goshen, Kentucky, and Anna and Alyssa Papapietro of Terryville. He is survived by his brother, James and wife, Marcy Papapietro, of Keene, New Hampshire; his sister, Patti Papapietro of Ithaca, New York; and brother, Gerald and wife, Sandy Papapietro of Monterey, Tennessee; Pricilla and Ron Rupaka, David and Debra Czarneski, and Phillip Oakes, all of Bristol. He was known as everyone's favorite and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Corky also leaves behind his wonderful neighbors and friends, Monty and Krystal Pruden, and his extended restaurant family and customers. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his twin sister, Dorothy "Sis" Papapietro; and his daughter-in-law, Dini Papapietro.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Military honors will follow. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
