ERLENE ELIZABETH BARRON BUFORD, 101 URBANA - Erlene Elizabeth Barron Buford, 101, of Urbana and formerly of Stockton, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born June 28, 1912, in Grayslake, Illinois to Earl A. and Lillie M. Hucker Barron. On June 8, 1946, she married Samuel W. Buford in Grayslake. They had two children: Jane Scherer (Chris) of Urbana; Margaret Engelmann (Dennis) of Godfrey. She has two grandchildren, Anne Schmitt (John), O'Fallon, IL and Nancy Moran (Dr. Tyler), Columbus, Ohio and one great-grandson, Hank Schmitt. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers: Oliver, Raymond, and Earl Jr. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois in home economics. She taught high school home economics in Westfield and Cissna Park and was an Extension home economist in Stark and Jo Daviess counties. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, University of Illinois Alumni Association, C-U Antique Study Group, C-U Art League, Stockton Heritage League, Stockton Art League, and the Grayslake Historical Society. She was a 4-H leader in Jo Daviess and Lake counties as well as an Extension volunteer for more than 30 years. She was a Board Member of the U of I Mom's Association for four years, Board Member of the U of I Home Economics Alumni Association and received the U of I Loyalty Award. There will be no visitation and a private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Grayslake Historical Society, P.O. Box 185, Grayslake Illinois 60030-0185 or to the . Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy is handling arrangements.
