KARL MCLAIN, 69 FREEPORT - Karl McLain, 69, of Freeport, passed away at the Madison VA Hospital on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013. Karl was born in Freeport July 17, 1944, a son of Elmer and Dorothy (Ernst) McLain. After graduating from high school he became an Auto body Technician, he was also a custodian at the Embury United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and he was a member of the VFW. Karl is survived by his mother, Dorothy McLain; 2 sons, Chad and Kevin; 1 daughter, Terra (Keith) Miller; the love of his life, Sue Thruman; seven grandchildren; 1 sister, Patti (Roger) Weigel; 2 brothers, Gary McLain, Elmer (Donna) McLain; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Carly. He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer McLain and stepfather, Kenneth McLain. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at the Embury United Methodist Church, 516 S. Galena, with Pastor Julie Bunt officiating. Visitation will be at the Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd. from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
