ROGER LEROY KUHLEMEYER CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA - It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Roger Kuhlemeyer, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, after a 13 year battle with the cancer multiple myeloma. Born in Stevenson County, Illinois on January 31, 1935, Roger attended a one room schoolhouse before joining the US army and serving overseas. Upon returning he attended the University of Illinois to earn his B.Sc. then the University of California at Berkley where he obtained his Ph.D in Civil Engineering. Roger met Elaine, his wife of forty-eight years, in California. They moved to Canada in 1969, where Roger taught Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary until his retirement in 1993. Roger had a great love for fastball and played competitively in Calgary well into his 50's. He passed on his passions for fishing, hunting and the outdoors to both of his children that they have carried with them throughout their lives. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling to the west coast and Vancouver Island to visit his family and go salmon fishing with his son and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending his summers on his property at Nanoose overlooking the ocean. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Lucille Kuhlemeyer and leaves behind his wife Elaine; his children, his daughter, Kirstin (Wayne) and his son, Jeff (Becky); and his three beautiful grandchildren, Bryn, Emi and Ethan. Roger is also survived by extensive family in Illinois including his brothers, Harold (Sheila) Ken (Rae) and his sisters, Arlene (Nevin) and Roselee (Ken) and their families. At Roger's request there will be no service but his ashes will be scattered in his special places by his family. We would like to send a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Any donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in his memory, Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting Arrangements entrusted to Leyden's Funeral Home and Crematorium, (304 - 18th Avenue S.W., Calgary AB T2S 0C3), Tel: 1-403-228-4422.
