Dawn L. LaMartina RACINE-Dawn Lee (nee: Larson) LaMartina, 64, passed away at Hospice Alliance’s Hospice House in Racine on June 4th, 2014. Dawn was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 13, 1950 to Kenneth E. and Gladys E. (nee: Cutler) Larson. On September 7th, 1974, she was united in marriage to Michael A. LaMartina of Racine. Dawn graduated from J. I. Case High School in 1968 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital (now Wheaton All Saints – St. Mary’s) from the time she was 17 until her retirement in 2011 as a candy striper, a nursing assistant and for most of her career as a Health Unit Clerk; most recently in the Emergency Department. In her years at St. Mary’s/Wheaton, Dawn had the pleasure of forming many friendships. These friends should know that they were very important to her; even after she was forced to stop working by a stroke. Dawn is survived by her husband Michael of Racine; daughters Sarah and Marin of Middleton, WI; mother and brother, Ken, of Hot Springs Village, AR; sister, Nancy (Tim) of Glenwood Springs, CO; grandchildren, Siena and Rowan of Middleton, WI; sister-in-law, Peg LaMartina and many nieces and nephews as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her father and her parents-in-law as well as a brother-in-law, Rick LaMartina. Dawn’s family's heartfelt gratitude goes out to the many special people who helped her throughout her last few weeks; including doctors, nurses and nursing assistants. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages that donations be sent to the non-profit Hospice Alliance at www.hospicealliance.org. As per Dawn’s wishes, she will be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date TBA. Please feel free to share stories and photos with the family at http://www.sturinofuneralhome.com/obituaries/.
