Dr. Hugh H. Smith BURLINGTON — Dr. Hugh H. Smith, age 86, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Dolphin House in Waterford. He was born April 15, 1928 to Henry and Mamie (nee Burns) Smith in Mt. Horeb, WI. His early life was spent in Mt. Horeb on the family farm. He graduated from Mt. Horeb High School. Following high school he attended and graduated from UW Madison and the Marquette Dental School. Hugh served in the military during WWII where he was stationed in Japan. In 1956 he was united in marriage to Marilu Adamson in Kenosha, WI. Following their marriage they lived in Burlington where he owned his own dentistry practice. Hugh was involved in the community; he was a member of the Burlington Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Charles Church, where he sang in the choir. For many years he volunteered at the Franciscan Missions. In his spare time he enjoyed playing tennis, golfing and watching the Packers and the Brewers play. Hugh is survived by his wife, Marilu; children; Timothy (Sharon) Smith, Susan (Robert) McEntee, Thomas (Jeanne) Smith and John Smith; grandchildren, Samantha, Natalie, Rebecca, Michael and Madeline Smith, Allison, Michelle, Kelli and Maggie Smith, Jack and Will McEntee. He is further survived by his brother, Dean (Helen) Smith and sister-in-law, Helen Smith. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to the Franciscan Missions in Rochester, WI. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Allay Hospice, Melinda Dolphin and the staff of the Dolphin House for their care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 8 at 6:00PM at St. Charles Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 8 from 4:00PM until 6:00PM, at the Church. A private burial will take place at St. Charles Cemetery.
