RACINE - Norma L. Deck, 91, passed away peacefully at Elizabeth Residence on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Norma was born in Racine on February 4, 1922 to Arthur and Edith (nee Sanders) Deck. She spent her early life in Racine and graduated from Horlick High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Norma began her career as a librarian first at Millikin University in Illinois, then at the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana. She returned to Racine in 1958 to be a librarian at the Racine Public Library. She retired in 1984 as Head of Adult Services after 26 years of service. Norma was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She spent time traveling here and abroad, liked to play bridge and had a savvy eye for fashion. Most of all Norma was a voracious reader with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. Norma is survived by her adopted family, Peg Martin and her children Jeffrey (Mary) Martin and family, James (Kathy) Martin and family, and Jane (Gary) Fox. She is further survived by her special friends Richard and Linda Mielke. She will be missed by friends made from her time at the Public Library, the Atrium, Elizabeth Residence and St. Paul’s. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald and good friend Robert Martin. A memorial service for Norma will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Mound Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Diane Tetrault officiating. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 9 a.m. to the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery. For those wishing to remember Norma in a special way, memorials to Health Care Network, 904 State St, Racine, WI 53403, have been suggested. Sincere thanks to Hospice Alliance for their compassionate care. A specially heartfelt thank you to Ramel Repavich, Seth Buchanan R.N., Mary Dolensek R.N. and the rest of the dedicated staff at the Elizabeth Residence for the loving home they created for Norma.
