LAREDO - Major Robert Hermanutz, 72, passed away on November 26, 2013 in Laredo, Texas from complications due to the exposure of the chemical Agent Orange while serving our Nation in Vietnam. He was a 1955 graduate of Saint Rita grade school and a 1959 graduate of Horlick High School. During the summer of 1963 he was the program director of the Racine County Boy Scout Camp. He earned Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. He received an Army Reserve Officer Commission after graduation. He was a Vietnam combat veteran earning the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, two Army Commendation medals, and many service medals. In 1966 he and the students of Horlick High School built and supplied a grade school in Vietnam. He was stationed all over America and spent four years in Asia, eight years in Europe and two years in Africa. He spent much of his Army career in Paratrooper units. He retired in 1986 as Major. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) at the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. He taught at Northern Illinois University in the School of Business where he was working on his doctorate degree in Economics at Northwestern University. Poor health forced him to stop working after experiencing a heart attack in 1991. He moved to Laredo, Texas in 1992 which had a more suitable climate. He suffered a stroke in 2003. His favorites past time activities were tourism and reading. He spent most of his youth at 7056 HY 31/ He was a Racine Journal Times Paper boy for five years He is survived by his wife Gisela Torrez, born in February 13, 1974, whom he married in 2003 and adopted two sons, Alex and Justice. A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the City of Laredo Cemetery.
