STURTEVANT - Russell Arthur Hays, Age 65, passed away July 7, 2013 at All Saints Hospital following a short illness. Russ was born in Big Rapids, Michigan April 10, 1948 to the late Ashford and Virginia (nee Wacther) Hays. He is survived by his loving wife, of 42 years, Jeannine (Johnson) Hays, son Eric Hays of Elkhorn, daughter Tamara Gahart of Union Grove, 5 grandchildren: Kayela (Josh) Theama, Kristie (Shane) Hubeler, Bradley Carlson, Brody and Colin Hays, “his little buddy” great-grandson Brandon Theama. He is further survived by his 4 sisters: Roma (Larry) Robinson, Sommertown, TN. Rita (Frank) Corkum, Dahinda, IL. Rebecca Parker Saranac, MI,Rae (Jack) Seath, Ludington, MI. 2 brothers: Richard (Mary Jo) Hays, Clarkston, WA. and Roger (Sue) Hays Racine, WI. His in-laws: Danny (Janice) Johnson, Roger (Penny) Johnson, Tommy (Penny) Johnson, Gary (Ann) Johnson all of Racine, WI. Linnea (Earle) Pfefferkom, Kansasville and Mark (Lori) Johnson, Union Grove, WI.and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Russ was preceded in death by his 3 sisters: Regina Hays, Ruthann Riebow and Rosalind Rigg and his in-laws Stanley and Evelyn Johnson. Russ proudly served his country during the Vietnam War from June 1967 through May of 1969 and was awarded numerous medals including the Purple Heart and 2 bronze stars, one with valor, He was a lifetime member of the Racine Instinctive Bowman. Russ also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He was employed by UTi Logistics in Sturtevant. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday July 14, 2013 at 4:00 PM at the Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday July 14, 2013 from 1:00PM until 4:00 Pm at Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Monday July 15, 2013 at 12 noon at the So. WI. Veterans Cemetery. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Mullane, his staff and the nurses on 3B at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints for their care and compassion at this time.
