Stephen Blagec KENOSHA — Stephen Blagec, age 87, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Ridgewood Health and Rehab Center, Racine. Born in Kenosha on February 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Alois and Caroline (Dumesic) Blagec. He was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School. From July 24, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 3, 1946, Steve served our country in the U.S. Navy. He proudly received the American Area Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Area Ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon. On July 16, 1949 at Holy Innocence Catholic Church in Racine, he was united in marriage to Bernice Wasiak. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2013. For many years, Steve was employed in the maintenance department with the Kenosha Unified School District at Mary D. Bradford High School. He was previously employed as a milk man with Milk Producers. He was an avid bowler, fisherman and hunter. Steve enjoyed spending time woodworking, especially in his retirement years. Stephen's passion was being a tomato grower. He was known for caring and producing a variety of heirloom tomatoes. He will be deeply missed by his children, Steve (Pam Redlin) Blagec of Oxford, Mark (Kari) Blagec of Racine, Debbie (Larry) Vance of Franksville and Kristine (Peanut) Blagec of Kenosha; three grandchildren, Andy (Shannon Cagle) Vance, James L. Frangelo and Jenna Frangelo; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Vance and Andrew Vance, Jr.; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Blagec; and his three sisters, Anne Meurer, Caroline Christian and Stephanie Blagec. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Full military honors will follow. Private interment will take place in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation for Steve will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to one's favorite charity would be appreciated. Steve's children would like to thank the entire staff of the Ridgewood Health Care & Rehab Center for the wonderful care given to their father.
