Verna Due CHICAGO, IL Verna Due died in Chicago, IL on October 19, 2012. Verna was born in Racine on November 4, 1914. She was the first child of George J. and Anna Skow Due. Verna was a graduate of Washington Park High School. She also graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where she was president of Chadbourne Hall. During World War II, she directed the Red Cross at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio; the largest hospital receiving wounded soldiers from both theaters of war. Verna also worked with the federal programs for aging, including the Social Security Administration. She served as a member of the White House Conference on Aging, where pioneer work in the field of aging by women was initiated on a national scale. Verna is survived by her beloved sister, Margaret Duetti. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward in 1976. A graveside services will be held at Graceland Cemetery on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 12 noon. Please meet at the entrance of the cemetery.
