WATERLOO — Dennis M. Walker, 64, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at his home in rural Waterloo.
Dennis was born Jan. 23, 1950, in Auburn to Earl and Janet (Wilhelm) Walker. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Waterloo.
He was a 1968 graduate of DeKalb High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War where he received three purple hearts.
Dennis owned and operated Walker Trucking for 40 years, retiring in 2012.
He was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in rural Waterloo.
He was an expert mechanic sometimes known as "The Wizard." He built street rods and enjoyed the company of his fellow car building friends.
He married Joann Buchs on Aug. 7, 1971, in the St. Michael's Catholic Church in rural Waterloo, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Amanda Walker of Fishers; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Craig Harris of Auburn; four grandchildren, Morgan Walker, Hailey Walker, Zachary Harris and Abbie Harris; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Craig and Linda Walker of Waterloo, Frank and Karen Walker of Waterloo and Brian and Tatiana Walker of Lynnwood, Washington; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Laura Walker of Seattle, Washington, Renee Speer of Auburn, and Gail and Ken Sanders of Hudson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1098 C.R. 39, Waterloo, with Father David Carkenord officiating. Burial will take place in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery with military graveside honors being conducted by the United States Army and American Legion Post 97 of Auburn.
Visitation will be from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. Friday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.
