ANGOLA — Richard C. "Jonas" Gens, 65, of Angola, Indiana, died May 10, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Gens was the office manager at REMC in Angola, Indiana.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Angola, and the St. Anthony Knights of Columbus since 1985.
He was very active and longtime member of the Angola Moose Lodge #1568 and the Limberlost #18 Legion of the Moose. He was awarded the Moose of the Year in 1991; served as an officer in every position of the Angola Moose Lodge and served as Governor of the lodge from 1990-1992. He was honored in 1992 with the Loyal Order of Moose's Fellowship Degree. He was honored in 2014 by receiving the highest degree that the Loyal Order of Moose will bestow on any member, the Pilgrim Degree.
He was a member of the Angola Masonic Lodge #236; a member of the Fort Wayne Valley of Scottish Rite; a member of Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, Pokagon Shrine Club of Steuben County and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Fort Wayne, Court #27.
He was also a charter member since 1973 of the Lakeland Lions Club.
Jonas is survived by his three brothers, Walter (Betty Jane) Gens of Brocton, N.Y., John Gens of Brocton, N.Y, and Robert (Connie) Gens of North Port, Fla.; his sister, Bertha "Honey" (Frank) Stroker of North Port, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Dolores Gens of Patton, Pa.; 15 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also survived by many friends and adopted families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George Gens; and his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert Giese.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Angola, Ind., with Father Bernie Zajdel.
Burial will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Weicht Funeral Home with a Moose service and Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made in Jonas's name to Moosehaven or Mooseheart.
