ASHLEY – Wayne V. Carper, 88, of Ashley died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at The Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler.
Mr. Carper was a farmer. He had also owned and operated Carper Farm Supply in Ashley until his retirement.
He was a 1943 graduate of Pleasant Lake High School and also attended Purdue University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II.
Mr. Carper was a 50 year member of the Ashley Masonic Lodge #614.
He was born June 6, 1925, in Franklin Township in DeKalb County to Harley and Mable (Berryhill) Carper.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Marlene Carper of Wolcottville and Jim and Cindy Carper of Wolcottville; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Carper of Pleasant Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeff Carper; a grandson; two brothers, Stanley Carper and Harvey Carper; and a sister, Carol Jean.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with Pastor Craig Burkholder officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn with military graveside services being conducted by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post 31 of Angola.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a Masonic service taking place at 6 p.m.
