Daniel Wayne Blanchard, 71, passed away August 12th, 2014 after a valiant fight with brain cancer. His witty demeanor, crafty conversations and amazing ability to convey life's experiences will be missed by all who knew him.
Dan was born in Seattle and raised a family there prior to moving to Ellensburg to enjoy the country and its comfortable pace of life. He built a custom home there to enjoy the sweeping views of the fields and rolling hills of the Kittitas Valley. As a young man he enjoyed the thrills of owning fast cars and developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He was a skilled hunter and fisherman, which led him on many adventures throughout life and it pleased him to passalong this passion to his boys. Dan served his country in Vietnam as a medic, earning a Purple Heart for his courageous efforts in supporting the troops. Over the years he also served his community as an elected Fire Commissioner for the City of Shoreline for multiple terms. He went on to become a private pilot and achieved a wide range of technical endorsements and ratings. As a professional, he was a general contractor with talents in all aspects of the trades but his roots were grounded in his meticulous drywall skills. All of those who had the pleasure of knowing Dan could tell a story of an adventure or experience that created a lasting memory. However, all would agree that to properly recount the tale it could only be spun by Dan himself to ensure no detail was unmentioned and all dramatic effects were fully expressed. His gift of storytelling will be greatly missed.
Dan is survived by his wife Gail, his sons Derek and Devin, daughter Heidi and their families, as well as his brothers John, Joe, Don and Mike, and his sister Cherie.
A memorial service is expected to be held at the Blanchard's home in Ellensburg in the coming weeks.
