Bayer, Floyd Herman, 80, Teacher and Army veteran, passed away on July 26, 2014 at Lakepoint Nursing Center, El Dorado, KS. He was born at the family farm in Rice County, KS to Herman Jacob and Sarah "Scott" Bayer on June 7, 1934. Floyd attended college at McPherson College and Kansas State University and recieved his Master's Degree in Science-Chemistry. He went on to teach chemistry at USD 259-Southeast High School, USD 385-Andover and USD 347-Kinsley where he helped many students over the years understand the difficult subject of chemistry. He married the love of his life, Barbara Vancil on August 15, 1964 in Augusta, KS. Floyd was a former member of the Kiwanas and a member of the Sedgwick County Zoo since it's inception in 1971. Floyd is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Kathy Martindale(Chris) of Kansas City, KS and Kristin Bayer(Glen Nilsen) of Valley Center, KS; sister Carol Reynolds, Rush Center, KS, Esther Delimont(Joe), Lebanon, KS, and Elizabeth Bomba, San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Ian, Heather and Roane Martindale of Kansas City, KS and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Sarah; and sisters Louise Carlson, Shirley Schendzielos, Elnora Bayer and an infant sister. Memorial services will by held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Eberly Farms, 13111 West 21st St. N., Wichita, KS 67235. Memorial donations may be made to the Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 Zoo Boulevard, Wichita, KS 67212 or the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67220.
